WV Football

I usually don't post stuff like this, but for some reason I found this one too funny not to share.

The West Virginia Football team has a couple of defensive linemen who seem to sit next to each other on purpose. You would think one of the coaches would have mentioned that maybe they shouldn't sit next to one another.

I guess we'll just file that one under funny football photos.

strange weekend

This is going to be a strange post! This all happened a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to post this sooner, but I am just getting around to it.

We were up at the lake as usual a couple of weeks ago. We had to pick the boat up from the marina where it was being winterized, and we wanted to get out in the kayaks again. The weather wasn't cooperating much for either of those to happen. We ended up picking the boat up in the rain, and putting it in the garage wet. No big deal, just have to let it air out good before covering her up for the winter. On the way there I introduced the hood of our truck to a pretty good sized turkey though. No damage to the truck, and I am pretty sure the turkey made it out okay also.

Saturday afternoon we decided to take a drive in the drizzle and scope out some potential drop in spots for the kayaks. We drove out on Corey's Rd. toward Axton Landing off of Rt. 3 between Tupper and Saranac Lake. The Autumn colors were absolutely beautiful. Brenda got some good pictures even though the rain was on and off.

It was on that last "road" that things got really strange. We were headed down this dirt path that I believe leads to some camp sites. I was driving very slow as I wasn't sure how muddy things might get. I looked away for a second because Lucy was trying to jump out my window, and Brenda yelled "Oh my God, a naked Man!" I looked up to see a boy in the middle of the path,no clothes on, with his backside to us. he didn't realize we were there. I said "it's just a boy," put the truck in reverse and started baking out, when the boy realized that we were there. He proceeded to hunch over to cover his front for some reason??? I suppose it was just a natural reaction, but it was his backside that was out there for us to see. Brenda was cracking up all weekend about that. We got out of there as fast as we could. He was obviously embarrassed, and I really didn't want to find out why he was there in the middle of the "road" like that.

Sunday the weather cleared and we were able to get out in the Kayaks. We went back to our usual spot, and I decided to take the camera along this time.

Unfortunately it was just a few minutes after that last picture when I accidentally rolled my kayak. Me and the camera went into the water, which was not as cold as I expected. Oddly enough after drying out for a day or so the camera still works, but we missed a lot of opportunities for some great pictures. I did snap a couple with my camera phone... they aren't great.

Then on the way home Monday, there was a traffic jam that we got stuck in for a couple of hours.

It was a strange weekend... but enjoyable. If the boy that was in the road is reading this, we didn't see anything... really.

Gobble Gobble

Well it's getting to be that time of year again. I know normal people won't be celebrating Thanksgiving until the 22nd of Nov, but in our family we have a thanksgiving gathering the last week of October. We do this because certain members of the family aren't around in November, so it's the last time we can all be together until spring.

The tradition is for Mom to make the regular thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, stuffing, soup, artichokes, yams, green bean casserole, the whole deal. This year I am trying to convince everyone to try something new and get a turducken. If you don't know what a turducken is, wikipedia says it's a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken. The cavity of the chicken and the rest of the gaps are filled with, at the very least, a highly seasoned breadcrumb mixture or sausage meat, although some versions have a different stuffing for each bird. There are several places you can buy a ready to roast turducken online. Pop it in the oven for several hours, make some side dishes and your ready to go.

But so far I have not had any luck convincing Mom to try something new. Well anyway, I thought I would throw a copy of our favorite Brined Roasted Turkey Recipe up into the new Recipes section of the site to share with everyone. I have had requests from friends in the past for this recipe, and now it will be easier to share. We have made this recipe several times, and it always comes out very juicy and flavorful. We have also made the Cornbread stuffing that goes along with it. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

And maybe I can still convince Mom to try out the turducken. It might be a nice new tradition.

Oktoberfest '07

So as I mentioned the other day Dave, Denise, Brenda and I went to Oktoberfest at Whiteface Mountain last Saturday. I thought I would post up a few pictures from the weekend. The foliage was in full color, the mountain looked beautiful. It was a nice day, a little cool, and very windy at the top of the mountain. We took the gondola up to the top to take some of these pictures.

On Sunday we took the boat lift out of the water. Good thing Dad was there to supervise, otherwise we probably would have done it wrong. After the boat lift was out, Denise decided she wanted to catch a fish to take home. It didn't work, but she sure looked good in the waders.
