This weekend we had Dave, Denise, Mom and Dad up to the lake. Saturday Dave, Denise, Brenda and I went to Whiteface Mountain for Oktoberfest. We had a good time, but the highlight was the Yodeling contest that Dave got into. Check out the video! He came in third place!!! Too bad there were only 3 contestants.
So I mentioned that we were on vacation the week following Labor Day. I thought I would add a bit of detail to that. We didn't just work on projects around the house. We actually got out in the kayaks for a while too. We do have some pictures (I hope) on a disposable camera that we need to get developed. I'll add them once I get them back. We didn't take the digital camera with us, but we will next time out.
We put in at the canoe access ramp on the way to Saranac, and headed out toward Follensby Pond. we didn't make it to the pond, actually now that I look at the map I think we went past it without realizing it. That is a good spot for us to put in. It is close by, and when the wind kicks up the river does not get too choppy. It is nice and protected winding through a beautiful area.
Here are a couple of pictures, just to give a little background of what the trip was like. Hopefully we will get back the others soon, and have some more pictures to post.
We packed a nice lunch, and were out there for a good while. Along the way we saw a couple of different Blue Herron, red tailed hawks, turtles, and a muskrat (they are cuter than they sound.) On our way out we ran into a couple of women putting in at the same spot with their Kayaks, and they asked if we made it to the waterfall. So I guess we'll have to adventure a little further next time to find the falls.
There are several campsites along the way there also. Maybe we will adventure out for an overnight trip some time.
So as you Probably have noticed, things are changing around here. We are in the process of upgrading to a new site template, along with some other stuff. The looks of the site have changed, and we still have some work to do with it. On some of the content items we have enabled a new feature when you click on the images. Try it out, and let us know what you think. The images should expand when you click them, and you can navigate to the previous or next image by clicking in the left or right side of the image. We are working on getting all of the older content updated with this feature also. There may be some other features that we roll out in the near future. Hopefully you like the changes.
Well we spent all of last week up at the lake on vacation. YAY! We didn't ever want to come home. While we were there we spent some time working on the bar. here are a few pictures of the progress. The bar is mostly complete. We have to finish the stone work on the left side, and behind the bar, and we have to figure out what we are going to do for the counter top. We would also like to add a roof to cover the bar area, but that might not happen until the spring.
So Mom and Dad finally made it up to the lake last weekend (Aug 3rd - 6th 2007). It's been a couple of years since they have come up. Saturday Dad talked us into going to the Casino up there. It's a strange place. A couple of thousand slot machines, and a dozen or so tables. The slots for the most part are multi-denominational, you get to chose penny, 2 cent, nickel or quarter. I stuck to the 2 cent varieties, and made out okay. I came out a few bucks ahead. Everyone else lost. I guess that's why casinos make money.
Sunday Morning I get up, and of course Dad has been awake for hours already (he fell asleep on the couch at 7 Saturday night.) He tells me that our teak table and chairs out on the deck look dry, and that I should oil them. So I go to the garage to get the teak oil. Well while I am out there I grab the extension ladder so I can fix the piece of gutter that fell off. i get that done in a few minutes, and head back to the garage to get the teak oil (I didn't grab it the first time out.) this time I see the hedge trimmers, and loppers. I grab them because the ash tree is too close to the house, and the reason the gutter broke int he first place. So I trim the tree a little.
Well since I have the trimmers out, I think about taking down the bushes on the lake side of the house. We have been talking about taking them all out to make room for an outdoor patio bar, and a spot for the Bar-B-Que grill. so I go back tot eh garage and get the chainsaw. So after two weekends of work, and a lot of digging, we almost have the deck built in the new bar area. The pictures tell the rest of the story.
Oh, and I still have not gotten around to oiling that teak table and chairs.
All because Dad had to bug me about oiling the teak.
I'll post an update once we get some more work done. And maybe we'll even oil the table.
